Tax Preparer Penalties

Question: what if it is your tax preparers fault your taxes are late?

i filed my taxes with a preparer in early april. apparently there was some missing info. she emailed me on april 14th for this info. i, however, do not check my email that often and didnt get the email till the 16th. she claims she also phoned and texted me. not true. i never received any such communication from her besides the email. now she is casually telling us that we will have a late penalty. this is total BS! what should i do?

Answer: You are responsible for your Tax Return. You might get a break if your preparer did something really ridiculous like closing up shop and leaving town on April 14 but for normal stuff, you are stuck.
