State Tax Rates

Question: since texas doesn’t have a state tax, how do their sales & property tax rates compare to other states?
I’m trying to compare how Texas and California taxes compare in total. Assuming Fed taxes are the same, what about all the other state, local, property, school, sales, etc… taxes. Would one save tax money by moving to Texas?
Answer: It generally evens out in the end, one way or another. Local Sales Tax for Houston is 8.25%, for example. Property Taxes aren’t low, either (including School Taxes), though I don’t have rates for the area at hand to cite. A local suburb was in the news lately — Cy-Fair; it was very popular due to good quality schools and low Property Taxes, so people moved in in droves — until the schools were overwhelmed and badly needed more money to expand to service all the influx, and Property Taxes went right up to match the rest of the area.
