Question: Independent contractor requirements for CT resident working in MD?

I am a CT resident and am about to begin working 4 days/week for my Uncle’s company in MD. All his workers are independent contractors rather than employees. He said I could become an employee but would have to fill out paperwork weekly myself if I want that. I’ve researched a bit about being a independent contractor rather than employee but I can’t find anything about what I need to do with the state (CT or MD?) and how to do taxes and basically any requirements. Where the heck do I begin?! Any guidance is appreciated. Also, if it makes a difference, this is likely a short term “position” (about 6 months.)

Answer: How are you being paid, W-2, 1099, Corp to Corp this is what matters at the end of the day.

You are required to pay the state income taxs for the start you work in.
