Tax Tables 2010

Question: I need help with my budget…?
I’m getting married next October (2010) with an 8k budget for 100 people. I want to be able to spend 500 on my dress. Problem is, I don’t know what a good price is on a ceremony/reception venue. A lot of places ask $1150-$2500 just to rent the place, and it doesn’t include anything else. For example, one place asks $5,290 for the room, ceremony, table linen and chair covers, setup, dinner, champagne, and service and tax. That only leaves about $2,700 for my dress, his tux, flowers, the centerpieces, unity candles, cakes, photography, a DJ, and anything else we may need. We want it in the evening and the day is on a Saturday but I’m not sure we will make it despite SO many people saying it is possible. I have looked at more than ten venues and come up with the same problem! I don’t know what things cost and it’s hard to know where to spend and where to be frugal.

You tried the budget calculator at the Knot? It is on the left, under “planning tools.”You plug an amount you can comfortably afford into the budget calculator (in your case, $8000).
The calculator will show you what percentage of your budget should be spent on each item.
Limit your search to venues and vendors whose costs fit within your budget percentages.
