What is the maximum wage garnishment allowed for Back taxes. California is already taking 25%, can IRS take another 25% or another 50%. Please send me the link to the law itself if possible. Thanks in advance.
Answer: The IRS uses a National Standards Chart whereby they itemize the cost for housing by state, transportation, food, clothing and other personal expenses. Any income over and above that is subject to garnishment without a justification otherwise. The website www.taxsos.com gives you links to (all) IRS info and things you can do to help yourself. Or
You can go to www.irs.gov and search for “collection financial standards”.
