Question: Where to move to: Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Kentucky, New York?

I have an opp through my employer to request a transfer to one of these states.

This is what I know.
Oregon: Job would be in Portland. Great scenery, clean, probably the highest quality of life of the five locales, decent people, close to Seattle, no Sales Tax.

Texas: Currently first pick. Would be in San Antonio. Hill Country, very clean, no income tax, people are great, some of the nicest looking women I’ve seen, ATX nearby.

Kentucky: would be at Ft. Knox near Louisville. The cost of living is very cheap, low crime rate. But, I’ve never been treated very nicely there. Hillbilly culture, filthy roadsides, and unpredictable weather all make for a depressing place.

Tennessee: would be in Nashville, a great city! Beautiful state, nice highways, great recreational opps, friendly folk. Closest to my home state.

New York: would be in Manhattan. Like the people, fast pace, and can-do will-do attitude. It’s its own universe! But the cost of living…whoa!

Answer: I would pick San Antonio or Portland. Actually I prefer Austin but the hill country is excellent – by far the best place to live in Texas. Portland is beautiful – a lot to do and it is close to Seattle.
No way NYC!! Way to much to live. We lived there 10 years ago and spent almost $9000 per month to live in a relatively small 2 bedroom apartment (1600 sq. ft.) and we had one car. We now spend half that, have a 4000 sq ft. house on 6 acres of land and 2 brand new cars and still put $3000 per month in the bank. That’s in NC but it could be any of the places on your list apart from NYC. Good luck whatever you choose!!
