The IRS
Who is the IRS?
The IRS or the Internal Revenue Service (IRS
for short) is the largest agency in the United States
Department of the Treasury. The IRS' job is to try to
uphold the federal tax laws by encouraging the highest degree
of voluntary compliance with the tax laws and tax regulations.
The IRS is a complex organization and although the IRS mission
stresses fairness in their taxation, tax payers still need to
be aware of the tax laws and their rights so that they can help
the IRS ensure fairness in accordance with the IRS mission.
The IRS Mission
The IRS mission, according to the IRS, is to
"provide America 's tax payers top quality service by helping
them understand and meet their tax responsibilities and by
applying the tax law with integrity and fairness to
all."
While the IRS is usually not responsible for
the tax increases or the complexity of the tax laws, the
IRS gets most of the blame. The IRS is an easy target
for blames for all tax problems.
